We’re connecting everyone on Galiano.

Now more than ever, islanders rely on the internet to do their jobs and stay in touch.

Our mission is to provide affordable high-speed internet access to every part of Galiano, using infrastructure built by, for, and on Galiano.

GAIA is building a not-for-profit network of tree-mounted antennas across Galiano Island, with outgoing links to the mainland and other islands.

By building new infrastructure that is based on Galiano, rather than relying on off-island providers, we hope to provide “internet security” in the same sense that growing food on-island provides food security.

Because we’re supported by local volunteers and landowners, and thanks to a generous capital grant from the CRD’s Community Works Fund, we’ve been able to keep costs low; and as a society rather than a commercial provider, we judge our success by how broadly and equitably we are serving islanders, rather than by how profitably.
